Prioritizing Safety: Lessons from the Columbus Circle Window Washers Incident

thompson-ISA-system-3

All accidents are preventable, which is why safety remains our top priority in the real estate industry. We were alarmed to see what happened at Columbus Circle on February 28, 2025, when two window washers were left dangling outside a Midtown high-rise after their scaffolding malfunctioned [NY Daily News]. Thankfully, NYC’s first responders acted swiftly to rescue them, and we are grateful that no injuries were reported.

At our company, we consider our crews high-rise heroes (Check out our LinkedIn Newsletter) , and we put safety first in everything we do. That includes measuring wind speed before starting any job, ensuring all stabilization systems are operational, and making sure teams are properly trained.

Currently, we are installing a new intermittent stabilization anchor (ISA) system on 22nd Street due to a faulty track system. It appears that ISAs were not in use during the Columbus Circle incident, which could point to either a lack of proper training or a non-user-friendly ISA system—both of which are preventable issues.

If you need assistance reviewing your fall protection systems, this is what we do best. We’re here to help—feel free to reach out with any questions.
